Luxembourgish Siblings Fränk & Andy Schleck: Professional Cycle Racers

In the sports history, few siblings are famous for the same types of sports. Luxembourgish Siblings Fränk & Andy Schleck are one of the duo that participated in cycle racing and achieve many outstanding results.

1/ Fränk Schleck

Born on April 15, 1980, Fränk Schleck is one of a professional Luxembourgish cyclist. Mr. Frank developed his cycling skills by riding for the Luxembourg military sports program.

Frank joined the Slovakian-Italian cycling team “De Nardi-Pasta Montegrappa” when he was 20 years old. In 2003, he signed a contract with Team Manager Bjarne Riis for Team CSC and achieved his first position as a stagiaire for a professional cycling team.

In 2005, his young brother Andy participated in Team CSC and they won a national championship each in the course of the year’s racing season.

In 2011, Frank and his brother left Team CSC to form a new team Leopard Trek. 

With the newly-established team, Frank ranked third place while Andy came second place in the Tour de France, marking the first siblings in the history of the cycling to share the Tour de France podium.

During his career, Frank ranked first place in the National Road Race Championships in 2005, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2014. He also won the Tour of Luxembourg in 2009, making him the first native citizen to win the race over two decades.

2/ Andy Schleck

Born on June 10, 1985, Andy Raymond Schleck is known as the younger brother of Fränk Schleck.

He was enrolled from the amateur ranks to the “CSC” team in 2004 by Danish former ‘Tour de France’ winner Bjarne Riis. Fulfilling Riis’ expectations, Andy won the 2004 “‘Flèche du Sol” and the “Luxembourg Under-23 National Time Trial.”

During his career, Andy has proven his talents with top-five finishes in ‘Liège-Bastogne-Liège’, ‘La Flèche Wallone’, and the ‘Olympic Games’.

Due to the total lack of results and continued injuries, he announced his retirement from cycling in October 2013.
